Toy Recall

The underworld of counterfeiting is not just a money scam - its dangerous too!  Counterfeit goods are being sold in stores, discount retailers and flea markets across the country,  Some retailers take a big chance when they deal in counterfeit goods: for one thing it is illegal and for another there is no way for the retailer or a consumer to know if the goods meet safety and manufacturing standards.   This could not have been made more public world wide but for the spate of toy recalls there have been recently.

Counterfeit toys are nothing but cheap knock-offs of the real thing,  They are made with inferior materials and sometimes flammable materials.  Those fun plush toys loved by children and adults alike can be filled with asbestos for stuffing!  This is the stuff responsible for a rare lung cancer, mesothelioma, that is deadly.  Counterfeit toys tend to break easily due to poorly manufactured plastic molds that turn out thousands of look alike toys.  One of the worst assaults of all is the lead paint that is used by unscrupulous factories where some of the counterfeit toys are coming from in Asia.  We now know just how big a problem the lead paint has been since all those toys are painted with strong bright attractive colors.  With counterfeit toys, you simply do not know what harmful materials could be lurking in them and around your children.

The U.S. toy industry abides by and often exceeds established safety standards.  In fact this is also true of countries  in the European Union (EU). According to the British Press in an April 2008 release said..”” The EU and the United States have agreed to work closely to persuade Chinese toy-makers to improve the safety of their products.” It was in 2007 that huge toy recall of toys made in China were recalled due to safety concerns.  So if that was allowed to happen in so-called legitimate factories, imagine  what takes place in the counterfeit outfits.

The good guys, those manufacturers in both the U.S. and abroad that take care and due diligence in making their toys are taking a hit themselves because such a huge health risk is bound to make people think twice about buying many toys at all.  This website gives advice that you can use to make healthy toy choices for your child.
